We picked up one excellent word–a word worth traveling to New Orleans to get; a nice limber, expressive, handy word–‘lagniappe.’
-Life on the Mississippi by Mark Twain
Lagniappe
Essentially, lagniappe (pronounced: lan-yap) means a small gift given with a purchase to a customer, by way of compliment or for good measure; bonus. In Louisiana terms literally “something extra.”
I’ve always loved this word. And it’s always fun to get something extra. Why not live it?!
Go the extra mile to do a favor. Always be ready with a smile, or word of encouragement, you never know who needs it. Take the extra time to smell the flowers.
